The HFESNZ is a membership organisation for professionals working within the field of human factors/ergonomics (HFE), and for those with an interest in HFE. Human factors/ergonomics is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and HFE specialists are often found working in Health and Safety, healthcare, transport, and other areas of life where people’s safety, health, and overall performance needs to be considered. The purposes of the society are to promote the application of HFE, and to advance HFE research, education, public awareness and professional standards. HFE is growing in importance as more people realise that work and life need to be designed to meet the needs of people. To ensure that well qualified people are central to this emerging trend, HFESNZ has a critical role in growing the number of HFE professionals and supporting the development of those working in the field. 

We are looking for a part-time, contracted Administrator to carry out a range of tasks to support the HFESNZ including (but not limited to) membership enquiries, finances, meeting minutes, communications, event organisation, website management, and maintenance of annual memberships (via website database), in liaison with the volunteer HFESNZ Committee. The required hours will fluctuate from month to month but it is estimated that approximately 250-300 hours per year are needed to fulfill these tasks. This work will suit someone working from a home office, using their own equipment.

We seek someone with the following attributes:

  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills for both written and face-face modes (email, phone, video meetings).
  • Excellent writing skills as required for minute-taking and web development activities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, accounting packages and processes, and web software such as Silverstripe (some of these can be learned).
  • Works in an organised and orderly manner to ensure that all administrative functions are completed when required.
  • Initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and pro-actively, including working alongside volunteer committee members.
  • Passionate in supporting the work of HFE professionals in order to make a difference in society.
